Business Description

Blarney Woollen Mills, originally known as Mahony's Mills, was built in 1823 and provided employment to the people of Blarney and surrounding areas. The mill produced tweeds and woollens for both the home and export markets. In 1973, the mill closed down, leaving 500 people jobless. However, Christy Kelleher, a former employee, had a vision to turn the mill into the largest Irish shop in the world. Despite initial financial challenges, Christy and his family raised funds to purchase the mill and opened Blarney Woollen Mills in 1975. Today, the business thrives, offering a wide range of Irish products and attracting over half a million visitors annually. In addition to the shop, the family also opened a hotel, "Christy's," to enhance the visitor experience. Christy Kelleher passed away in 1991, but his legacy lives on in the thriving family company. Blarney Woollen Mills continues to provide a unique Irish shopping experience, with free shipping available both in-store and online to numerous international destinations.
