Business Description

Camden Fort Meagher, also known as Fort Camden, is a historic coastal fortification located near Crosshaven, County Cork. The fort has a rich history, with origins dating back to the 16th century. It was used for various military purposes throughout the years, including as a coastal artillery fort during the Napoleonic War and World War I. However, it fell into disuse and became derelict over time. In 1989, Cork County Council acquired ownership of the fort with plans to develop it into a military museum and tourist attraction. After years of efforts, restoration work began in 2010, led by the Crosshaven Community and supported by Cork County Council. The fort features underground tunnels, gun positions, exhibitions, military displays, and offers stunning views of Cork Harbour. It is currently closed for the year but plans to reopen in 2022. The restoration and operation of the fort are carried out by a dedicated group of local volunteers.
