Cancer Care West, formerly known as The Leukaemia Trust, was established in 1993 with the objective of developing Haematology and Medical Oncology services. Over the years, the charity has raised funds to support these services at University College Hospital Galway, focusing on patient support, therapy development, research, and education in Cancer and Leukaemia care. Recognizing the need for regional cancer centers, the charity played a role in Galway becoming one such center. To better reflect its broad scope of interest, the charity changed its operating name to Cancer Care West. The organization is dedicated to providing support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis, offering holistic services that complement medical treatment through residential accommodation and support services.
