Business Description
The Donaghmore Workhouse & Agricultural Museum is a historical site located in County Laois, Ireland. It is one of the few remaining workhouse buildings in existence and was commissioned in 1850, opening in 1853. In addition to showcasing the workhouse itself, the museum also features collections depicting rural life in the 1950s and 1960s, including agricultural and household artifacts. The museum's main focus is to tell the story of the families who lived and died within the workhouse during and after the Great Famine, using guided and self-guided tours and various exhibits to explain the socio-economic conditions that led to the establishment of workhouses like this one.
