Jakes Cakes, Restaurant & Bakery, opened in 1988 by Joe and Eileen Mc Carthy, is a family-run business that has been a popular spot for coffee and cake for over 25 years. Located in the historic part of Bandon, the restaurant and bakery sit on the site of the former South Market House, which was erected in 1620. The business is named after Jake Sweeney, the last Market Keeper, whose family held the position for about 100 years. Jakes Cakes offers delicious cakes, beverages, and great tasting food, with custom cakes available for all occasions. The establishment also serves as a family restaurant, offering breakfast, carvery lunch, and coffee and cakes throughout the day. Additionally, Jakes Cakes operates a bakery and cake shop, providing bread, scones, and personalized cakes made to order.
