St. Ailbes Credit Union Caherconlish was established in December 1980 in response to the high interest rates that made it difficult for working individuals to borrow money. The idea to set up a Credit Union in the area was initiated by Brendan Crehan. With the assistance of Matt Heffernan from the Irish League of Credit Unions, a study group was formed to examine the feasibility of the Credit Union. The Credit Union's common bond includes several parishes in the area. It was named St. Ailbes Credit Union after the patron Saint of the Diocese of Cashel and Emly. The Credit Union is member-owned and operates with a focus on providing quality financial services and products to its members through upgraded technology and personal service at its five offices.
